Onboard Cable Diagnostic
The DGS-1008D is capable of performing advanced cable diagnostic features designed to assist in troubleshooting network connection problems. The cable diagnostic feature will automatically detect three common faults in an Ethernet cable. These include: 1) an open circuit (a lack of continuity between the pins at each end of the Ethernet cable or a disconnected cable), 2) a short circuit (two or more conductors short-circuited), and 3) an improper termination (a termination resistance greater than 100 ohms). Any of these common cable faults will be detected by the Cable Diagnostic function, and displayed through the LEDs at power-up.
Easy to Use
The auto features of this switch make installation plug-and-play and hassle-free. No configuring is required. Auto MDI/MDI-X crossover on all ports eliminate the need for crossover cables or uplink ports. Auto-negotiation on each port senses the link speed of a network device (10, 100, or 1000Mbps) and intelligently adjusts for compatibility and optimal performance. It also features diagnostic LEDs which display status and activity, allowing you to quickly detect and correct problems on the network. Every port also supports a cable diagnastic feature that helps to detect cable related problems.
IEEE 802.1p Priority Queues Support
With packet prioritization capability, the DGS-1008D allows traffic to be queued as critical and non-critical, permitting your computer to run voice over IP, video-conferencing/ multimedia applications and other time-sensitive traffic with higher priority than non critical data. This in turn helps to eliminate jitter and lag in multimedia streams.
